ARNO SCHMID-TRUCKSÄSS

Prof Arno Schmidt-Trucksäss, MD MA, is a doctor of Internal Medicine, Sport and Exercise Medicine and Nutritional Medicine. He holds a full professorship in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Basel. He is also Medical Director of the Centre for Sports Medicine at the University of Basel. One of his main areas of research is cardiorespiratory fitness and physical activity and their relationship and effects on heart, metabolic and arterial health. He has also long been interested in healthy ageing. Exercise and sport are important pillars of a healthy lifestyle, which appear suitable for slowing down ageing and preventing premature frailty by maintaining muscle and cardiovascular fitness. Prof Schmidt-Trucksäss is committed to establishing exercise as an effective medicine for the prevention and treatment of non-communicable chronic diseases in society. He has published widely internationally on these and other topics (ORCID 0000-0002-4662-3911), is on the Board of SEMSCPX international and DeGAG Society as well as Associate Editor of Atherosclerosis.
